Another post in our series on Creating Azure (hosted) WordPress Websites without knowing php or MySql!

In the Overview blade, the URL of the new azure hosted WordPress website  is http://wp-techblog.azurewebsites.net.

Now we’ll add a custom domain so that the website will resolve to: http://techblog.alvarnet.com instead of using the azurewebsites.net domain.

Settings > Custom Domain blade > Hostnames > Add hostname

In the Add Hostname blade, Add in the desired Hostname (#1 in screen shot below)

Validate (#2 in screen shot below)

Note the error (#3 in screen shot below) that ‘No CNAME records were found. Please add a CNAME record pointing to wp-tchblob.azurewebsites.net

In the DNS service provider (EasyDNS.com) that we’re using, we’ve logged in and have now added a CNAME record with techblog.alvarnet.com pointing to wp-techblog.azurewebsites.net.

When we Validate the new custom domain again, the Domain ownership resolves correctly. Now select ‘Add hostname’ (#3 in screen shot below) to add the custom domain:

Notifications show that Add hostname has been successful and the new hostname is displayed on the ‘Hostnames assigned to site’:
